Governor Daniels focused on the basics during his sixth State of the State address last night before a joint session of the Indiana House and Senate. The governor didn’t hold back in assessing our current circumstances, reminding Hoosier voters and taxpayers that one bad decision or momentary lapse of discipline can cause Indiana to join the ranks of bankrupt states. The high point of the speech came when Gov. Daniels asked legislators to join him, committing to protect taxpayers and make the tough decisions necessary to keep Indiana in the black:
I hope you will join me in saying tonight to the people for whom we all work, we will make the hard choices, we will stretch the available dollars, we will do whatever is necessary but we will not take the easy way out and we will not make this recession worse by adding one cent to the tax burden of our fellow citizens.
